stories of Everyday life

The ‘Stories of Everyday Life’ project is a way of documenting my life by transferring my painting experiences to the medium of photography and film. I take inspiration from amateur photography, using the camera on my mobile phone - a tool that is freely available - and the repetitiveness of the same gesture.

I can do the project all the time, moving between the studio and home, being on the move, meeting friends or attending art events. The premise of the project is to take two photographs with the camera on my phone every day, at certain intervals.

Every day I document my life with my mobile phone camera - a popular and widely available tool. I take inspiration from amateur photography and use features that traditional cameras don't have. The camera on my phone allows me to switch between the front and back lenses, so I can capture what is in front of me as well as what is behind me. Photos taken with the front lens capture what I can see, while photos taken with the back lens are used for selfies. I do not set up specific frames or create a narrative, I just photograph what is within the range of the lens. I believe in chance. Each photograph is 1 x 1 cm. I arrange the photographs in a graphics programme, placing them in a regular alternating pattern. I started the project 'Tales of Everyday Life' in early 2020 and it is still ongoing.

I photograph myself ('selfie') and, by changing the lens settings, everything in front of me. Each photo is 1 x 1 cm and each module is 21 x 30 cm (630 photos). From these modules I create closed compositions. I currently have 63,000 photos, which makes 100 modules.

I present time sequences of everyday events; important events are juxtaposed with less important, routine ones. I democratise each of the photographs; in this juxtaposition each has equal importance.

The main assumptions of the project are:

1. I take 2 photos with my mobile phone camera for each period. I photograph myself (selfie) and everything in front of me.
2. Each photo is 1 x 1 cm.
3. I arrange the photos alternately in a graphic programme in modules of 21 x 30 cm. Each module contains 630 photos.
4. I arrange the printed modules into closed compositions (e.g. 6 x 8, 5 x 10, 6 x 10, 7 x 10).
5. I photograph every day.
6. The project is in progress.

"presence", video

The photographic project is accompanied by the video 'Presence'. Each frame is a day in my life, divided into 64 sequences.
Each day I recorded 64 videos at intervals of about 15-30 minutes, pointing my mobile phone camera at myself. I started
in the morning and finished in the evening. The video is in progress.
